Our Most Ambitious Project to Date

In preparation for Grand Theft Auto V, we've decided (quite long ago, actually) that we want to do a huge feature-length video for the community of GamingOwl. To do this, we are actually inviting members of the community to take part in this upcoming epic. Please read everything carefully, as understanding what you're signing up for is just the first step to getting the ball rolling and making this project successful. Good luck!

Date: Tuesday, March 26th, 2013
Time: 12:00AM US Eastern [Convert]
Live Broadcast: GamingOwl TV

Next week, we're playing Bioshock Infinite on launch day. This has never been done before on GamingOwl, so we're excited to see how it goes - and of course, to play the game!

BioShock® Infinite is a first-person shooter like you’ve never seen. Just ask the judges from E3 2011, where the Irrational Games title won over 75 editorial awards, including the Game Critics Awards’ Best of Show. Set in 1912, players assume the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to the flying city of Columbia on a rescue mission. His target? Elizabeth, imprisoned since childhood. During their daring escape, Booker and Elizabeth form a powerful bond -- one that lets Booker augment his own abilities with her world-altering control over the environment. Together, they fight from high-speed Sky-Lines, in the streets and houses of Columbia, on giant zeppelins, and in the clouds, all while learning to harness an expanding arsenal of weapons and abilities, and immersing players in a story that is not only steeped in profound thrills and surprises, but also invests its characters with what IGN called “Emotional ties (that) will continue to set the bar in gaming.”

Indie Game Spotlight: Gone Home

Am I the only one who can't handle being home alone in a big house?

Gone Home is a narrative explorer which puts full focus on drawing the player into this carefully sculptured mansion. You arrive at the house with no prior knowledge. Slowly you begin to learn about your surroundings which soon brings out the inner-voyeur inside of all of us. It's obvious by the care the developers have put into this game that the finished product will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience.

Some of you may remember the Minerva’s Den DLC for BioShock 2, arguably better than the game itself. The creators enjoyed working on the famous DLC so much that they decided to pull together to create Gone Home as a team. Steve Gaynor, Johnnemann Nordhagen and Karla Zimonja joined forces to conceive The Fullbright company, leading to the devise of the indie game. There are no set goals, no puzzles.

But where are the guns? The non-combat (what's that?) nature of the game allows the gamer to be immersed in this detailed world. The best way to describe the experience of playing this game is that it is led by your curiosity. Hand written letters and notes can be found throughout the game, all of which were written by friends and family of the developers. Even the stack of VHS episodes of X-Files seasons have detailed information about each episode on the side of them. The game brings to mind The Stanley Parable, a mod for Half Life 2 we at GamingOwl tried and enjoyed a while back.

Gone Home has already received an Honorable Mention of Excellence in Audio and Seamus McNally Grand Prize.

It's set to release mid 2013 so you can keep tabs on it here. Have a look at the teaser below and tell us what you think in the comments.
